High expectations for fall film releases

With the change of season, comes a fresh crop of films set towreak box office havoc. This fall is no different, andHollywood’s A-list stars are headlining new projects to fillup the seats.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law star in “Sky Captain and theWorld of Tomorrow,” a throwback to the classic movies of the1930s. Angelina Jolie also stars in the picture, which was filmedentirely in front of a blue screen where scenes could be digitallyadded after filming. The movie follows an adventure bound hero(Law) who calls on reporter and ex-girlfriend (Paltrow) to save theworld from a mysterious enemy. The film’s imagery resemblesthose of comic book pages, with unreal but enjoyable effects. Themovie opens on September 17.
For all you “Finding Nemo” fans out there,DreamWorks &- Disney’s competitor &- brings”Shark Tale,” opening October 1. The voices of WillSmith, Robert DeNiro, Renee Zellweger, Jack Black and AngelinaJolie star in a film that aspires to be nothing like”Nemo,” except when it comes to box office success. Andwith a new hit single on the soundtrack, “Carwash,” byChristina Aguilera and Missy Elliot, “Shark Tale” willbring in audiences from all generations.
Jennifer Lopez’s next film venture is the romantic comedyset to the beat of ballroom dance entitled, “Shall WeDance?” Lopez plays a dance teacher who shows Richard Geresome sexy moves for spicing up his dwindling marriage to SusanSarandon. The movie also stars Stanley Tucci as a highly eccentricballroom dance champion, and includes a cameo by R&B singer,Mya. With musical flicks becoming increasingly popular, it will beinteresting to see how the choreographed dance tale performs. Thefilm opens on October 15.
“The Grudge,” Sarah Michelle Gellar’s firstfilm since ending “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” is aremake of the Japanese horror flick of the same name and is rumoredto scare even more than the last frightening import, “TheRing.” Using her ass-kicking skills from the long-running TVshow, Gellar stars as a nurse who’s sent to investigate ahaunted house with inhabitants dying from intense fits of rage. Fewdetails of the movie have been specified, however, true to originalJapanese horror films, the audience is left to fend for themselves.This film opens on October 22.
Julia Roberts fits in a starring role before the birth of hertwins, with the powerful romantic drama, “Closer,”based on the stage play of the same name. The twisted love affairset to open on December 3., also stars Jude Law and NataliePortman. With three Oscar nominated actors in the same dramaticfilm, it is sure to be a success.
No film season would be complete without the return of yourfavorite characters in super-hyped sequels. December brings twosuch films with “Oceans Twelve” and “Meet theFockers.”
In “Oceans Twelve,” the gang’s all back andrunning amuck through the cities of Europe in a head to head thiefcompetition. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and JuliaRoberts reprise their roles, and with the new addition of Welshbeauty Catherine Zeta-Jones, it promises to keep the action andcomedy of the original. The movie comes out on December 10.
“Meet the Parents” star Ben Stiller, along with theentire original cast, are returning to theaters in “Meet theFockers”. Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand playStillers’ parents, making everyone guess whether the newflick will surpass its predecessor. This film opens on December22.
