Officials to make Causeway experience exciting and safe
September 30, 2003
Fans attending the Causeway Classic will be able to enjoy a safe environment, tailgating, short lines and a great football game if Sacramento State officials have their way.
The largest crowd of the season is expected to attend the much-anticipated rivalry game and there will be an increased amount of security at the game, according to events manager Todd Perruccio.
“There wouldn’t be any conflicts in the perfect world, but we won’t turn a blind eye,” Perruccio said.
Associate Athletic Director for Administration Bill Macriss said the extra security will be there to “assist, identify and keep the action on the field.”
Although there is normally one area designated for tailgating at home games, two areas will be used this week. The tailgating will be separated by team, with Sac State tailgaters in parking lot #8, the normal tailgating area, and Davis tailgaters in parking lot #4.
Macriss said this decision was made based on the expected high amount of tailgaters, but also said safety issues played a factor.
Tailgating will begin two hours before the 7:35 p.m. kickoff.
In addition to tailgating several fraternities and sororities are also expected to host pre-game events, including Tau Kappa Epsilon’s fourth annual “Tailgate Bash” with Hip-Hop and R&B station 103.5 “The Bomb” in attendance.
Macriss does suggest that fans show up at the stadium at least 30 minutes prior to the game in order to avoid long lines and make the opening kickoff.
Tickets to the game can still be purchased this week in the Student Union.
The stadium box office will also be open on Thursday and Friday from 6-8 p.m. and at 5:30 p.m. on game day, according to Perrucio.
Sac State students will still be able to get into the game for free using their OneCard, but can purchase two additional $8 tickets in the student section. The tickets must be purchased no later than Friday.
Prices for non-students will be raised from $15 to $20 for reserved seating and $8 to $15 for general admission seating.
