Copasetic ‘Cody Banks’
September 22, 2003
This movie is definitely for the kids. It’s like a junior JamesBond, including those cool gadgets and the girl.
Frankie Muniz (TV’s “Malcolm in the Middle”) stars as CodyBanks, a seemingly normal teenager who has trouble talking togirls. He is recruited by the C.I.A. to get close to NatalieConnors (Hilary Duff of “The Lizzie McGuire Movie”), the daughterof a very important scientist, Dr. Connors (Martin Donovan). Theyneed to learn about what important project Dr. Connors is workingon with “the bad guys.”
So, I decided to look into the DVD and see if there was anythingfor the “older kids” who enjoyed the movie. Surprisingly, there wassome good stuff in this DVD.
Some, not a lot. Unless you’re under the age of 13.
For instance, there’s make-up tips from Hilary Duff and a “Howto Talk to Girls” featurette included in the extras.
There’s also a collection of deleted scenes that wereinteresting to watch, as most are. Some even managed to be funny. The outtakes, on the other hand, were only mildly appealing. Iwould usually find such a thing hilarious, but it seemed like theydidn’t want to include the really funny parts. It left me hanging, waiting for the funny to show, but it didn’t come.
There’s also an interesting section called “Agent Action,” whereyou get to see some of Frankie Muniz’s training and rehearsals forthe action sequences he had to do. He did his own stunts on most ofthem, because it makes the film that much more genuine and better, using actors instead of stunt doubles.
For the photographers or people who just like to look at thecinematography, there’s the “Photo Gallery.” You can view behindthe scenes stills or pictures of the cast.
But for those future cinematographers out there, there is”Developing Agent Cody Banks” and “Storyboard-To-Film Comparisons,”which provide interesting views of what the producers and directorare thinking when they were making the movie. There’s also thedifferent camera angles in “Multi-Camera Sequences” that are fun towatch. Also, there’s a “Director’s Diary,” where director HaraldZwart tells us why he decided not to include the scenes he decidedto cut from the final film.
Also, there is a theatrical preview to “Agent Cody Banks2,” which promises to be “Bigger” and “Better” than the first. And,if you want to watch more movies, you can preview other movies.Great time killers.
All in all, if you’re looking to kill time, there are extras onthis DVD worth watching. That is, if you like to know what goes onbehind the scenes.
