Projectors stolen from campus

Two video projectors worth approximately $5,000 each were reported stolen from Mendocino Hall last week.

The first theft occurred in room 1024, and was last seen on Nov. 21.

“The projector was reported at 8:03 a.m. on Nov. 25,” said John Hamrick, University Police Public Information Officer.

The second theft occurred in room 2032. Both classrooms were labeled “smart” because they had a projector and an Internet Protocol connection, in addition to some other advance teaching aids, said Spencer Freund, Director at University Media Services.

“It is not known how the suspect(s) gained access to the building,” said Hamrick. “The room was not locked.”

The projectors were mounted with special screws but weren’t wired, as is usually done in pre-installation said Freund.

“These projectors were purchased between 6-8 months ago, so they are fairly new,” said Fruend.

There have been other attempts at projector thefts in the past, but those one were too hard to steal, said Freund.

Freund said for the amount of equipment that is bought every year, the amount of equipment stolen is very minimal, but every projector is a loss.

There are over 180 projectors on campus, Freund said.

“There are no suspects in either case,” Hamrick said.
