Women’s History, a month-long celebration

During the month of March, Sac State will be hosting a variety of events to celebrate National Women?s History Month. The theme this year is “Women Sustaining the American Spirit”, and to kick it off, the Women?s Resource Center will be honoring Sac State?s very own outstanding women athletes. This event will take place today from 12 p.m.-2 p.m. in the University Union?s Redwood Room.
Women?s health is a focal topic that will be discussed during March as well. On Wednesday, Mar. 6th the Women?s Resource Center will team up with the Health Education Department of the Student Health Center, where Lynn Wilcox, Ph.D., Professor from the Counselor Education Department will speak about women and spirituality. She will address different issues in regards to women?s health, narrowing it down to both the physical and spiritual aspect.
On Thursday, Mar. 7, health educator with the Breast Cancer Early Detection Program, Regan Overholt will be discussing issues of breast cancer including self-examinations.
Different organized religion will also be topics during Women?s History Month. On Tuesday, Mar. 19th a panel discussion will take place in the Hinde Auditorium. Panelists will include female religious leaders from various organizations and will be discussing women?s role in patriarchal religious constructions. The cost is free to attend that event.
