CSUS Foundation needs student employees
March 13, 2002
The CSUS Foundation is looking for more than 50 students to fill full and part-time paid positions ranging from surveying hawks? nests to testing alternatively fueled vehicles.
The jobs pay between $7 and $18 per hour and call for 8-40 hours of work per week, according to the Foundation?s job board.
The highest-paying job on the board pays $18 per hour for surveying hawks? nests with the Department of Fish and Game.
Other unusual opportunities include working for the secretary of state, testing alternatively-fueled vehicles for the California Energy Commission and analyzing toxic waste with Toxic Substances Control.
“There are usually between 70-80 positions available at any given time ? most of those are offered through state agencies,” said Kim Angellar, a Foundation employment and recruitment specialist.
In addition to the jobs offered on-campus with the Bookstore, University Union and Dining Services, various state agencies like CalTrans and CalPERS handle student hires through the Foundation.
“They set up contracts with us, then we find the students and put them on the payroll.” Angellar said. “Depending on what type of work they do, they look for students in different majors. For example, the State Lottery is always looking for marketing students.”
The Foundation employs approximately 1,600 students at any given time, said Nancy Pennebaker, special assistant to the executive director for the Foundation.
Job postings for all Foundation positions are available in the career center, at the Foundation offices in the bookstore and on the Foundation?s Web site.
“The job openings change every month, and most jobs usually last at least one semester,” Angellar said.
In addition to having a booth at the April Career Fair, the Foundation holds mass-hirng events four times a year.
The next event is scheduled for May.
