Many issues have risen from the events of Sept. 11 and students still have tons of unanswered questions. Sacramento State has been willing to help provide those answers through a series of forums with two coming up on Feb. 19, and March 17.

The forum scheduled for Tuesday is the fourth in the series. Titled “Terrorism and Civil Liberties”, it will start at 12 p.m. in the University Union Hinde Auditorium.

Two speakers are scheduled to appear; William Vizzard, chair of the CSUS criminal justice program and retired special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and Stephen Robbins, an adjunct professor of government at Sac State and a Sacramento attorney. The forum will be moderated by William Dorman, a government professor here at Sac State.

The fifth forum in the series is “The Impact of September 11 on the Interfaith Dialogue”, andwill take place on Sunday, March 17 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Steven Lee Yamshon Alumni Center. The speakers are, Sac State professors of humanities and religious studies, Rosa Cuneo Amer, Maria Jaoudi and Robert Platzner. The forum will be moderated by CSUS professor of humanities and religious studies Brad Nystrom.

During these forums, the speakers usually will talk for a few minutes, then they will open up the forum for questions from the audience.

According to Frank Whitlatch, assistant news director for Sac State, people have a lot of questions about Sept. 11. He says the University has the responsibility to answer those questions. Whitlatch says there has been a good turnout for the forums.

“We usually have 100-200 people who come and go to the forums,” Whitlatch said.

Previous forums have dealt with various issues and subjects from the events of Sept. 11. Speakers such as professor Ayab Al-Qazzaz, and government professor Buzz Fozouni have discussed subjects about Islam, foreign policy, and hate crimes. All of the forums are available on videotape at the library?s media center.
