Aquatic Center to celebrate 20th anniversary on Friday

Sacramento State will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Aquatic Center on Friday in the University Union Ballroom.

“We would like to have a celebration of our 20 successful years since the opening of the Aquatic Center,” Operations Manager Cindi Dulgar said.

The celebration will consist of a dinner with a no host bar and slide shows of Sac State?s history. Sac State?s ballroom will be filled with students and staff, past and present.

“I?m really excited to see the turnout,” Dulgar said.

The Aquatic Center was created in 1981 and is located on Hazel Avenue off Highway 50 at Lake Natoma, in Rancho Cordova.

The Aquatic Center provides a varieties of services including summer youth programs, competitive teams and adult classes in kayaking, canoeing, sailing, wind surfing, rowing, wake boarding, jet and water skiing.

The Aquatic Center is a place where people can go spend the hot summer days for fun and competition, with family and friends.

Recognition for the center is handed to a few individuals: Paul Best, Gary Goulard, Ray Clemmons, Garth Tanner and Bruce Cranston. Best was ASI?s first Aquatic Center Director, Goulard was the CSUS recreation administrator, Clemmons was Sac State?s former football coach and student activities advisor, Tanner was Folsom?s park district administrator who aided in the Aquatic Center?s current location and Cranston was at the head of Folsom Lake District Parks.

For Sac State students, prices are wallet-friendly. “For those who have not been there, I encourage student to use the Aquatic Center,” Dulgar said.
