October 14, 2001
Transsexual Dana Rivers will speak about her life and experiences Thursday at 11:45 a.m. in the University Union Redwood Room in a lecture entitled “Dana Rivers: Her Transgender Journey.”
Rivers suffers from Gender Identity Dysphoria, an extreme dissatisfaction and unease with one?s physical gender. She gained the attention of the national media when she was dismissed from her teaching job at Auburn?s Center High School in 1999 after undergoing male-to-female gender reassignment surgery.
Rivers now tours the country, lecturing about her condition and experiences and doing civil rights work for the transgendered community, and has appeared on “Oprah” and “20/20.” Call (916) 278-6997 for more information about Thursday?s lecture.
