Dance Art?s 20th season kicks off
October 31, 2001
Dale Scholl Dance Art kicks open its 20th season with “Divine Divas,” a dancing tribute to women who have made a name in the music industry.
“Divine Divas” opens Thursday at 8 p.m. and runs through Nov. 17 in the CSUS Dancespace in Solano Hall.
Dale Scholl, the Artistic Director of the show and Sacramento State dance professor, studied dance at the University of Indiana. In 1977, Scholl came to Sac State to open up a dance program.
“I was basically hired to develop the dance program,” Scholl said. “I spent three years developing the curriculum, with a lot of support form the campus and the community.”
The Sac State dance program is part of the university’s theatre and dance department and offers a variety of jazz, modern dance and ballet classes, as well as dipping into the art of choreography, performance classes and dance history.
Dale Scholl’s up-and-coming attraction will include choreography to the music from artists such as Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner and Madonna – artists that have inspired people from all walks of life.
One of Scholl’s new works will include “Chain of Fool,” and will feature Turner’s “What’s Love Got to do With it?” and “I Can’t Stand the Rain,” as well as Franklin’s “Respect.”
Tickets are $15 general and $12 for students and are available at Central Ticket Office or by calling 278-6156.
