Sacramento State?s women?s soccer team had its third loss of the season on Sunday following a 1-0 loss to the University of Cincinnati.

Sac State (0-3) fell behind after Cincinnati defender Heather Herweh scored off a penalty kick in the 12th minute of the game.

The Hornets were at a disadvantage at the start of Sunday?s game because of several injuries to key players.

Lori Kerswell, Karalee Narimatsu, Mattea Stanger and Kristin Hoffman have all suffered injuries, causing several changes in field positions.

“We?re just trying to get a rhythm,” head coach Sandra Asimos said. “Once we get back to full strength we?ll have more of an offensive team.”

After their loss Friday to the University of the Pacific, the Hornets would have liked to finish the weekend with a win.

However, Sac State knew it was up against some heavy competition going into the game.

Asimos thought the team played extremely well despite the injuries and playing against a highly-ranked team.

Asimos noted that the Bearcats (3-1) were ranked 40th in the nation.

Although Sacramento?s defense kept Cincinnati from adding to its first goal, the Hornets were unable to get one in the net.

Hornets goalkeeper Amy Seely had 11 saves, keeping Cincinnati from increasing its score.

The Hornets play Oregon State University this Friday and the pressure is on to improve their current record.

The game will start at 4 p.m. at the Hornet Soccer Field.
