Los Lobos brings their East L.A. sound to Sac State

Los Lobos, a Grammy Award Winning musical group, will appear at the Sacramento State University Union Ballroom at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 3.
Appearing with the headlining group will be special gusts, Mariachi Femenil las Aguilas and Rondalla Sentimiento Romantico.
Los Lobos was established in the early 1970s with the members, David Hidalgo, Cesar Rosas, Louie Perez and Conrad Lozano. These four met in high school in East LosAngeles. The full name of Los Lobos is Los Lobos del Este de Los Angeles (the Wolves of East Los Angeles) and they derived that name from a Tex-Mex band, Los Lobosdel Norte.
The group played a variety of styles in neighborhood groups. Los Lobos played rock and roll in the style of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, soul, the blues, rhythm andblues and heavy funk. According to their website, as the four friends experienced the rise of the Brown Berets and the Chicano Power movement, they began listening andstudying traditional Mexican music.
In 1984, the group made history when they received the Grammy Award for the new category of best Mexican/American performance.
Los Lobos received a great deal of commercial success after supplying the soundtrack for the movie, “La Bamba.” The soundtrack sold two million copies .
Tickets for the show are $12 for students and $18 general admission and are available at the Central Ticket Office.
