April 16, 2001
FREESTATE, an alternative rock style band that mixes musical influences by such bands as Creed, Staind, and Blink 182 will perform at Joe Serna Jr. Plaza this Wednesday at noon.
The Sacramento State based band consists of three members: guitarist and vocalist Jonathan Wood, bassist and vocalist Joshua Wood, and drummer Scott Tieber. The band was formed in 1998, and recently released a demo CD which includes the songs “Narrow Road” and “A Hero’s Trial.”
FREESTATE has performed at many venues, including Mt. Shasta Coffee Connection, March of Dimes Benefit Fundraiser, McCloud Fiesta, etc. They were chosen as the headlining band at the Siskiyou County Golden State Fair, on the community stage, and recently the band placed 50th in the nation for a spot on the “Little Nicky” soundtrack.
Bassist and vocalist Joshua Wood of FREESTATE says that since he and brother Jonathan “Luke” are identical twins, when they are on stage they make fun of each other a lot.
“It wasn’t planned to be our stage show, but it comes so natural to play around, have fun and mess with each other,” Wood said.
FREESTATE has also received airplay from KWOD 106.5 FM, KWHO 102.3 FM, The Apex 1580 AM, KMJC 107.9 FM, Y 105 FM and Star 100.1 FM.
“All I have to say about the band is that they (the audience) will enjoy the show,” Wood said. “We have fun and try to make sure that the crowd does too.”
