Spring Break group gets the best rates for students? ?south of the border? trip

If warm beaches, bikinis and beer are what you have in mind for Spring Break, Mexico is the place to be. A variety of trips are offered to Cancun and Mazatlan throughout the months of March and April for college students to take a break and party hard.

USA Spring Break, part of USA Travel, is a group that coordinates these trips for college students.

USA Travel is not a travel agency, they deal with the hotels and clubs directly so that they can get the best rates possible.

“Travel agencies and the Internet cannot compete with us,” said Jeff Trexler, Spring Break coordinator for USA Travel.

These trips offer accomodations in top quality hotels, and parties at different clubs every night. Students from all over the U.S. go to Mexico for spring break, so meeting new people isn?t likely, it?s guaranteed.

“This is the place to be,” Trexler said. “Cancun is where MTV and all the celebrities go for spring break.”

These trips are not chaperoned, though there are staff on site 24 hours a day in case of the need for assistance.

These trips generally run about $799, which includes air and hotel for eight days and seven nights. Packages that include dinner and parties every night are available for about $100, depending on the plan.

For the students who aren?t looking to shell out that much money this year, there is an alternative. S.W.A.T., a subsidiary company of USA Travel offers bus trips to San Felipe and Rosirito, Mexico. Although the beaches don?t offer warm, clear water and the rooms are more comparable to the Best Western, rather than the Hyatt, there is no doubt you will have a good time. There are still parties every night, and you will still find a crowd during this busy time of year.

“The atmosphere is just a little bit more laid back,” Trexler said.

If all of this sounds like fun, but you can?t shell out any money, think about working for USA Travel for the month of June. Every year, USA Travel hires people over the age of 21 as charter staff, hotel staff and party staff for the high school grad trips they offer.

Payment is minimal to none, but free food and board is provided. You will be in Mexico for the whole month??free! Duties will include being on hand for the students and chaperoning parties. The rest of the time is left to do as you like.
