River City Classic Preview
March 30, 2001
Sac State and Davis will build off their long time rivalry in a game to be played at Raley Field on Tuesday April 3 at 6:30. With the help of River City Baseball, the game will be played at the home of River Cats and the winner will receive the River City Trophy. Both sides are hoping for this to become an annual event at Raley Field and it is being called the River City Classic.
The trophy that was designed by River City Baseball, uses the prominent water towers that are near each campus, as the centerpiece. It is also equipped with a lighted baseball on top and for baseball bats as the stand. The trophy, which was shown off at a Raley Field press conference on Wednesday afternoon, will go to the winning team each year and their name and year will be placed on the trophy.
“This is going to be an exciting thing for the players and the community,” said Brian Hewitt, assistant coach for the Hornets. This is a great venue to play this cross-town rival and should be an exciting event for both schools.”
Tickets are available at the Sac State box office, Raley Field, or online at tickets.com. The Hornets will return to Raley Field on May 2 to play Stanford.
