March 12, 2001
“Luminarias,” a romantic comedy surrounding the lives and friendship of four Latino women. The film will be shown at noon on Wednesday, March 14 in the Redwood Room of the University Union.
Andrea, Irene, Sofia and Lilly are four professional, intelligent and sexy Latinas who have been through it all. They’ve struggled with prejudices, divorces and fruitless relationships.
Now single, these four women are back in the dating game, and still in search for Mr. Right.
Once a week the women get together for some margaritas at a local nightclub called “Luminarias.” They share, gossip and talk about the men, or lack of men, in their lives.
The film takes place in modern-day Los Angeles. “Luminarias” shows how the four Latinas struggle with identity, independence, sexuality and prejudices in a hilariously entertaining comedy.
The independent film is co-sponsored by UNIQUE and The Women’s Resource Center. The film is presented in recognition of Women’s History Month.
