Arrests made in connection with stolen campus property

Sacramento State police officers arrested two males Thursday and Fridaywho are believed to be linked to stolen campus property totaling over$100,000.
The first suspect was arrested Thursday night in a home on StansberryWay off La Riviera Drive, according to John Hamrick, public informationofficer for Campus Police.
“Yesterday morning we received information from a confidential informantabout stolen CSUS property,” Hamrick said Friday.
Based on that information, officers then wrote and obtained a searchwarrant, which was served Thursday night.
“Inside the residence we found property that belonged to the universitythat had been stolen,” Hamrick said.
Items recovered included a Proxima projector valued at approximately$4,500 and an IBM computer, including the monitor and other components,Hamrick said. The back of the monitor had “Solano Hall” on it, andofficers matched an ID number on the computer to that of one stolen fromthe university.
At the residence, officers arrested David Anthony Cookman, 50, formultiple counts of burglary, receiving stolen property and conspiracy.
“Based on information we received, we were able to develop a secondsuspect,” Hamrick said. “Officers returned to the station on campus andmade a second arrest early Friday morning.”
The second suspect, Jerry Whittaker, 41, was on his job as a Sac Statecustodian when officers contacted him. Whittaker gave a statement andwas arrested for multiple counts of burglary, conspiracy and possessionof methamphetamines, according to Hamrick.
“We feel that we’ve solved most of the burglaries [of office equipment]on campus over the past year,” he said.
Numerous projectors and computers have been stolen from the universityover the past year, and officers believe the burglaries are all linked.The amount of property stolen from Sac State totals over $100,000,according to Hamrick.
“The investigation continues as we speak,” Hamrick said Friday.
