On Monday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m., come join David Dalton’s lecture and demonstration featuring highlights of the life and career of well known violist, William Primrose.

Dalton, long time friend and former student of Primrose, will include documentaries featuring Primrose talking about the viola and its history, introductory lessons, and performances at this lecture.

It was at the age of 12 when William Primrose, one of the world’s most popular solo violist, stepped out into the spotlight performing his first public concert at St. Andrews Hall in Glasgow.

Primrose has been linked participating with the London String Quartet, at the Festival Quartet in Aspen, Colorado, and with the Deseret Quartet just to name a few.

Dalton, who is a Professor Emeritus of Brigham Young University, has had editions and transcriptions for viola published by C.F. Peters, G. Schirmer, and the Oxford University Press.

It was at the Eastman School of Music and Indiana University, where Dalton studied with Primrose.

Dalton, former president of the American Viola Society for 15 years, is the author of many manuscripts. One, titled Walk on the North Side, was actually co-written with Primrose.

So take a break from the books this Monday night and see why William Primrose was one of the best violists’ through most of the 20th century.

The concert will take place in Capistrano Hall 151. Entrance is free of charge. A donation of $5 is highly appreciated. For more information about the concert, call (916) 278-5155.
