DeLuca to Hypnotize Sac State
February 27, 2001
Don’t miss the opportunity to embarrass yourself and not even know it! This Wednesday, hypnotist and comedian Tom DeLuca returns for his 19th appearance to put Sacramento State volunteers under his hypnotic control for the amusement of others. The show will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Union Ballroom.
In his show, DeLuca hypnotizes volunteers into following his outrageous suggestions. In past shows DeLuca has been known to ask his volunteers to pose in body building competitions, speak like space aliens, and truly believe they were the world’s greatest dancers.
“I saw him on an episode of Maury Povich,” said Evelyn Gonzales, a sociology major at Sac State. “He asked someone to eat an apple and it was really an onion. The person didn’t even know the difference!”
Aside from performing on daytime talk shows, DeLuca has also appeared on the cover of The Wall Street Journal, and in both People and Rolling Stone magazines. He has been named “Campus Entertainer of the Year” four times by the National Association for Campus Activities.
“DeLuca’s approach is to forgo the gimmickry to reveal the fun and wonder hidden in the attics of his volunteers’ minds,” according to Rolling Stone Magazine. “There are moments of joy and happiness on stage.”
Sponsored by UNIQUE Programs, tickets are $7 for students and $10 general admission and are available through the Central Ticket Office. For more information, call 278-6997.
