The Sacramento State Student Affairs Service Center, located near the west entrance to the University Union, has yet to open its doors to students.

Distinguishable by the lowered, metal curtain and a sign that reads “coming in spring” the Service Center?s target opening is slated for Feb. 19. The center did not open at the beginning of the semester due to construction delays.

“The center will be a satellite office for the Student Affairs division. It will be a walkup center for admission and records, financial aid . . . all the resources we offer in Lassen (Hall), ” said Leslie Davis, Student Affairs University Union Director.

The future site of the Student Affairs Service Center is strategic, placed in the most heavily populated building on campus in an attempt to get to students that Student Affairs officials don?t believe they are reaching.

The Service Center?s goal will be to help Student Affairs better facilitate students? needs from admissions to career counseling and testing. Student Affairs doesn?t feel it has done an adequate job of reaching students from its primary offices.

“The opinion is that there is a large section of students that never make it upstairs to the offices in Lassen Hall. Those are the students that we are trying to reach with the new center,” Davis said.

The center will be run by a variety of staff from the current Student Affairs offices and will have its own hours of operation independent from those of the Union itself.

The hours have yet to be determined, but Davis said a realistic approximation would be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week. The center might also be open some weekend hours.
