Tom Krabacher, chair of the Academic Policies Committee, handed out flyers for a proposed Capital University Club to members of the Faculty Senate at its October 19 meeting.

In the past two years, a group of faculty, staff and administrators have developed plans to establish a Capital University Club on campus based on similar clubs found at other CSU campuses.

The proposed club facilities will provide a place for faculty and staff to relax, entertain guests and socialize with other members of the university community. “This will give us space,” Krabacher said.

The Club would be located on the first floor of the Union, across from the University Center Restaurant. This space takes advantage of the natural lighting and open atmosphere provided by the large windows and proximity to the Union?s outdoor patio area.

The Club will offer private sitting areas, an outdoor patio and a wine and beer bar. Newspapers, magazines and journals will be supplied for club members. The facilities will include comfortable lounge furniture, an area to serve soft drinks, coffee and snacks.

This Club will be professionally managed to ensure quality service to its members. The Club will also host a wide variety of social activities and special events.

The membership fees for this club will be $20 for those staff members who make under $50,000 a year and $25 for staff members who make over $50,000 a year.

Michael Lee, a member of the board of directors, said that the “fees will be used to serve the members.”

The board of directors will be holding a membership drive coming up soon. The goal of the drive is to get 200 members by December.

“If we don?t get 200, this will not be able to happen,” Lee said.

The Capital University Club at CSUS is a nonprofit organization that functions independently from the university, so student fees will not be affected.
