Make the most of your celebration

Out with the old and in with the new. With New Year’s Eve nearing, it is time to make plans to retire the year 2000, and mark the New Year with a bang on the world’s best night to party.

Whether you prefer to party like a rock star or opt to have a quiet night on the town, there is plenty to do that will suit just about anybody.

It’s a good bet that as long as an establishment has alcohol, there will be a celebration.

“We’re going to have a blues band, a complimentary toast and party favors,” said Julie Howard, assistant office manager of Sudwerk’s.

The Zebra Club, The Monkey Bar, Faces, The Rage and The Classic Jukebox are also hosting New Year’s celebrations.

“We’ll be having our annual New Year’s Eve party again for the 21 and over,” said Tonjia Welsh, Office Manager of the Classic Jukebox.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. The club will be featuring Top 40 music and the attire is dress to impress.

If the Sacramento nightlife is already an old hat, consider venturing off to another town. People of all ages are heading to the casinos, bars and streets of South Lake Tahoe to ring in the New Year.

Cheryl Rico, marketing specialist for Harvey’s said that people of all ages gather in the streets to celebrate the festivities. However, if the cold weather is too much to bear, Harvey’s will have three of their restaurants open with special menus for New Year’s Eve, a special New Year’s Eve show, “Full Body Rock”, champagne and dancing.

If the hubbub of the bar and club scene aren’t quite your bag, perhaps a quiet dinner at a choice restaurant will better suit your mood.

Bibas, an Italian restaurant in midtown, will be featuring a jazz band, a New Year’s special five-course meal and a complementary glass of champagne at midnight. Dinner for two typically ranges from $75 to $100.

Another fun way to ring in the New Year is to host a party of your own. What better way to spend the New Year than to be surrounded by your closest family or friends? While a lot of planning may be ahead of you if you opt to host a party (decorations, food, drinks, party favors, etc.), the course of the evening is in your hands.

“Many people are already purchasing decorations for New Year’s Eve this year,” said Joanne Bates, manager of Wishing Well. “Silver and gold are a popular color theme this year.”

Items to remember at the store for your New Year’s bash include party poppers and hats, appetizers, film for a camera, decorations, party favors and, plenty of beverages.

No matter what route you choose to bring in the new year, do it safely and most of all, have fun!
