History books for sale in Quad
November 9, 2000
Huddled around a table in the Library Quad, members of
the Phi Alpha Theta National Honor society discussed
their passion for history while trying to sell a
collection of used books Wednesday afternoon.
Around 38 boxes of history and humanities books
donated by campus professors were being sold for $.50
to $1.00 as part of an effort by the historical
society to raise funds for their organization.
Phi Alpha Theta President Jane Barbier said the
society is “dedicated to the research and study of
history” and hopes to raise enough funds to pay
featured speakers from such notable schools as Davis
and Berkley.
By the late afternoon the group had already raised
$200 and plans to do a similar book drive in the
Spring.
The group of 150 members usually meets on Thursdays at
4:30 p.m. in Mendocino Hall, room 4003.
