State Hornet nominated for award

The State Hornet Newspaper has been named a finalist for a National Newspaper Pacemaker Award by the Associated Collegiate Press.
The State Hornet was one of 49 newspapers nationwide which was given Pacemaker honors.
The Pacemaker awards are given annually for excellence in college journalism. Criteria of the judges includes:
o Coverage and content
o Quality of writing and reporting
o Leadership on the opinion page
o Evidence of in-depth reporting
o Design
o Photography
o Art and graphics.
Representatives of the State Hornet will be in Washington D.C. at the National College Media Convention, Nov. 9 through Nov. 12 to accept the award.
The contest this year was judged by staff members of the Washington Post. ACP began presenting the Pacemaker awards in1925. The Associated Collegiate Press and the Newspaper Association of America Foundation have co-sponsored the Pacemaker Awards since 1971.
“It is very exciting, it feels like all of our hard work is paying off,” said State Hornet editor in chief, Nadine Simonson.
