Friendship inspires photography exhibit
October 9, 2000
Photographers Virginia Newton and Anita Frimkess Fein are exhibiting their work in the Exhibit Lounge October 9-27, as a reflection of their twenty-five years of friendship in photography.
The exhibit, titled “Back to Back: A 25 year Friendship in Photography,” will be Newton and Fein’s second showing together. Their previous show took place back in 1976. “Twenty-five years is a good time to look back on what we’ve done and to share new work,” Fein said.
While Fein and Newton share a common taste in what they photograph, they differ immensely through their style.
“As we worked together, I was struck by how different our photographs of the same subject were. Whether back to back, or side by side, the amazement has continued as we have traveled and photographed together over the years,” Fein said.
Newton believes that the reason for this difference in style has a lot to do with the individuality of each photographer.
“In this way each photograph we make contains our fingerprint, becomes a symbol of who we are and how we feel at that particular moment, whether it be careless or caring, indifferent or inspired,” Newton said.
This exhibit can be seen Monday through Friday 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Thursday evenings 5-8 p.m. in the University Union Exhibit Lounge. Receptions will be held Thursday, October 12, 6-8 p.m. and Sunday, October 15, 1-3 p.m.
