Community Service Day takes place Saturday
October 4, 2000
The Fourth semi-annual Community Service Day will take place Saturday, Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Volunteers from all over the community, including students from Sacramento State will come together to help out at various sites all throughout the community.
Some community volunteers will help out with activities such as Women Escaping a Violent Environment (WEAVE) Works clothing store, where there volunteers will organize and sort new donations.
Other volunteers will meet at Mather Field Park to help prepare for community use. And then there’s the American River Parkway activity where volunteers there will clear the park of weeds that are endangering the natural environment.
Some other activities include Habitat for Humanity, which is to help the South Sacramento housing projects and the Emergency Foodlink where volunteers will work at the warehouse sorting and organizing donations.
The Associated Students is just one of the programs that are encouraging people to lend a hand in such an event.
Matrix Arts, Sacramento Recreation and Parks and ASI Children’s Center are just some of the sponsors’ for this event.
Volunteers are to meet in the Hive, which is located in the University Union, for a free continental breakfast and T-shirt.
After finishing at the various sites, volunteers are welcomed back to the Hive, where there will be music and complimentary lunch. For more information about this event call Tricia Randall at (916) 278-4241.
