Students win with Phlagleblast

Students who stumbled across Phlagleblast as they trekked to class or to find food in the University Union on Thursday won free tickets to movies, CDs, advertising space in the State Hornet, backpacks and much more.
Phlagleblast is a University Union celebration to welcome back students, generate jubilance and create campus community.
Students crowded around to hear and see the performances by with performances by Devotion, All Family Boys, the Sacramento State Martial Arts Club and KONTRA-GAPI, the Resident Ethnic Music and Dance Ensemble that took place in the lobby.
One event had students competing in a scavenger hunt to locate organizations in the Union.
“It’s a good way to get students familiarized with the offices and organizations here ,” said Beth Maul, a game room attendant.
Darlene Spencer, a registered nurse from the Student Health Center, said she was pleased with the number of students who showed up.
“We are glad to be a part of this celebration,” Spencer said. “We moved over here to expose students to the Health Center and we’ve had many students stop by to see what we’re all about.”
The celebration lasted from 1p.m. to 3:30 p.m and also featured roving jugglers, magicians, and cyclists.
Roger Smith, liberal studies major was intrigued with the happenings in the Union as he passed through.
“This was just too enticing to pass up,” Smith said. “But it’s not too good for the academics, because now I’m late for class.”
