One of the most popular places on Sacramento State?s campus will flow with a variety of activities tomorrow.

The University Union’s Fall “Phlagleblast” will contain prizes, games, music, discounted services and continuous entertainment from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Phlagleblast is a celebration that welcomes back students, generates jubilance and creates campus unity, according to University Union officials.

“It’s our way of extending a welcome to the entire campus,” said Bill Olmsted, program adviser for University Union UNIQUE Programs. “We know this is a hub for people who spend a lot of time here and we wanted to highlight the place for everyone.”

There are several items on tap that will begin in the University Ballroom Lobby:

1 p.m. “Kontra Gapi” (Kontemporary Gamelang Pilipino) will provide contemporary ethnic music and a dance ensemble for the University of the Philippines.

1:45 p.m. “Devotion,” a nationally touring, high energy, soulful pop L.A., Philippino-style singing group will fill their voices in the lobby.

2:15 p.m. “All Family Boys,” Sacramento’s Samoan A Cappella favorites, will sing a few tunes.

3 p.m. “CSUS Martial Arts Club” will give an exhibition featuring Sacramento State students.

According to Olmsted, there will be other performers floating around the building spreading their magic.

Magicians Brad Bonner, Dennis Loomis and juggler Todd Paul are scheduled to perform grand illusions on all three floors of the building.

In addition, a pianist will play on the second floor. The events were designed to not go unnoticed. “Nobody can escape this,” said Olmsted.

UNIQUE Programs has also put together a game for students to become more familiar with the University Union.

Game cards will also be issued with fill-in information. People who complete their game card and turn it back to the Information Desk will be entered into a drawing.

More than 40 prizes and prize packages will be given away. The prizes include a free-standing video game, bike tune-ups, CSUS theatre season passes, two pagers with two months of service, $100 worth of catering and haircuts for the entire semester.

A half-page State Hornet ad, United Artists and IMAX movie passes, 10 hours of table tennis in the Union game room and tickets to UNIQUE’s events will also be given away during the drawing.

“Actually, it’s set up as an introduction for students to find out where everything is located in the building,” Olmsted said of the game cards and drawing.
