Let’s make the next step

During the next couple of weeks, when you?re sitting at home flipping through the channels, don?t be surprised if you come across a familiar face when the batteries in your remote run out, and you realize that you?re watching the 2000 Summer Olympics.

That?s right Sac State fans, when the camera cuts from Bob Costas? meaningless facts and the rest of the NBC hype, and you actually get to see some of the Olympic action, you might notice that Sac State is well represented at this year?s games. Yup, there are world class athletes in the Olympics that call, or have called Sac State home.

Susie Bugliarello, a former Sac State softball star from 1994-97 is not only pitching well for the Italian national team, but now has her name etched in the world record books. She tied the single game strikeout record with 15 in a win over Cuba.

Yvonne Kanazawa Scott, an assistant track coach here at Sac State is also in Sydney representing Japan in the 100 meter hurdles. She took head coach Mike Gipson with her to aid her in her quest for an Olympic medal.

I think this proves that Sac State is a school with the type of athletic programs that can produce world class athletes. Wouldn?t it be great to see more of these types of athletes making a name for themselves at Sac State?
