Ebo Okokan entertained and educated a large audience at Joe Serna Jr. Plaza, Thursday afternoon.

Ebo Okokan is a traditional Afro-Cuban folkloric music and dance ensemble, which includes Sacramento State dance instructor, Linda Goodrich.

The band performed several dance and music numbers influenced by Afro-Cuban culture including Cuban’s ‘unofficial’ national dance, the Rumba.

“We pronounce it Roomba,'” said Goodrich.

Ebo Okokan has existed in several forms before consolidating into its present configuration of musicians, dancers and singers.

Since 1992, Ebo Okokan has presented workshops, performances, lectures and demonstrations from elementary schools to universities, community events and other regional and local functions.

Ebo Okokan consists of six drummers and six singers. Four members double as dancers also.
