Associated Students, Inc. agreed to donate nearly $3,000 of scholarship funds to the Student Emergency Grant Fund during their working board meeting on Wednesday, March 4.

The scholarship funds, with a total of $2,918, is the remaining amount from the director of social sciences and interdisciplinary studies after Aryn Fields stepped down from her director of SSIS position and was appointed vice president of finance.

It’s a crucial service that will benefit many students, said Patrick Dorsey, office of governmental affairs director.

The Student Emergency Grant Fund is given to students who experience a financial emergency in the maximum amount of $1,500. It is 100 percent dependent on donations. According to Pat Worley, ASI executive director, ASI already donates $2,000 annually to the grant as part of their budget.

Melissa Bardo, ASI president, said they will be requesting that the funds donated be used specifically for SSIS students.

The board members will vote on the matter next Wednesday, April 13.
