Complaint hearings disqualify candidates

Public hearings following the Associated Students, Inc. yearly elections resulted in the disqualification of all who were filed complaints against them.

Among those removed from office was ASI president-elect Yajayra Gonzalez, vice president of University Affairs Mark Anthony Sohl, vice president of Academic Affairs Iris San, director of Undeclared Felicia Vasquez and director of Health and Human Services Ashley Mashburn.

ASI election code states a candidate can not spend over $500 on their campaign. The ASI election complaint committee reports each candidate spent over that amount from building a website that cost more than what the candidate put in their expenditure report.

The people who filed the complaints were able to give full proof of the cost of the website, and the defendants were unable to provide the necessary evidence to show the cost for the website.

All election winners who were disqualified claimed an intent to appeal aside from Mashburn who dropped the position before her hearing took place.

The swearing in ceremony for the people permanently taking the positions will take place in the first week of June after appeals from removal are either approved or rejected.
