A male jogger was struck by a car at around 4 p.m. at Sacramento State’s front entrance by J Street and Carlson Drive.

Sac City Police received the call at 4:23 p.m. and arrived two minutes later. The jogger was taken away in an ambulance.

Witness David Dayton said the man and car collided as the driver was entering campus because the jogger was looking the opposite direction of traffic.

“His head was in the other direction toward campus, the car was coming and he ran directly into the side of the car turning into here,” Dayton said.

Dayton said it looked like the jogger flipped when he was hit, while a second witness, Monica Carlisle, said he got up quickly.

Carlisle said she did not know how the driver and jogger failed to see see each other.

“She was turning to go to school and he was running to go this way,” Carlisle said. “He didn’t see her; she didn’t see him.”

The driver was crying while talking to police and refused to answer questions.
