Kiwanis Family House, Sacramento State Dance clubs and Rancho Cordova Kiwanis Club are working together to put on a Community Benefit Dance Saturday, February 28th. The dance will be held from 6-10 p.m. in the University Union Ballroom. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to these three organizations.

According to Kiwanis Club member Veronica Freeman, doors will open at 6 p.m. and guests will be welcomed with appetizers and non-alcoholic drinks until 7 p.m.

From 7-8 p.m. dance instructors will teach dance moves to those who want to learn different styles such as salsa, ballroom, Ritmo Salvaje, hip hop and Scottish country dance.

After learning the moves, guests are invited to dance the night away with the beats of a DJ courtesy of the Sacramento State Dance Council.

For a single person a ticket will cost $20. For a couple, it will cost $35. For each student who shows a college I.D. from any school, it will cost $10.

Please contact Professor Sal Arrigo, of the Rancho Cordova Kiwanis Club at (916) 316-6347, or Sac State Dance Council at (916) 832-3597 to purchase tickets.

Tickets are also available at the door starting at 5:30 p.m.

“The Kiwanis Family house helps out families of those who have any loved ones who are staying at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for treatment for as long as they need. A majority of these families have traveled far and can’t afford to pay for lodging because of the bills that they’re probably already paying for,” said Freeman. “The proceeds from this event will help the families tremendously by helping to maintain the rooms that they can stay in.”

The Kiwanis Family House accommodates families with their own rooms and bathrooms. It also has places for relaxation such as the family room filled with games and movies.

Recreation, parks and tourism administration professor and Rancho Cordova Kiwanis Club member Salvatore Arrigo Jr. got involved with helping put together the dance fundraiser when one of his graduated students reached out to him.

Recently, alumnus Romi Sunga, a former member of the Salsa Loca club asked Arrigo for help with raising funds for the dance clubs at Sac State.

Because Arrigo was a member of the Kiwanis Club, they decided to put together a fundraiser that would benefit their respective programs.

“It’s a good community cause and once people find out why the Sacramento State Dance Council is doing it, they will get to see where their donation goes locally. You’d be helping families with their different situations,” said Arrigo.
