Sacramento State women’s basketball continued its success at home with a victory over Weber State University, Thursday at The Nest.

The Hornets defeated the Wildcats 76-60 and they are now 12-2 at home. Sac State moved up to fifth in the Big Sky Conference standings with just three games left in the regular season.

Sac State head coach Bunky Harkleroad said he was pleased with the way his team performed.

“We want to win and get into the postseason any way we can,” Harkleroad said. “Obviously late in February that’s all we want to do.”

Hornets’ freshman guard Gigi Hascheff scored 15 of her 18 game-high points from 3-point range. Hascheff only scored a combined 18 points in the previous two games.

“Its good to be back home and it was a big win,” Hascheff said. “It was a good confidence booster going into Saturday.”

Defensively, Sac State limited the Wildcats to 37.7 percent shooting, including just 18.8 percent from 3-point range.

Harkleroad was impressed with the Hornets’ defensive effort.

“Our defense is getting better and we did what we had to do,” Harkleroad said. “We got some stops and kept them away from the rim.”

Sac State shot 43.5 percent overall, and 35.3 percent from 3-point range, while forcing 16 turnovers. The Hornets came into the game leading the Big Sky in steals averaging 13.5 per game.

Sac State (17-9, 9-8) will play its final home game of the season Saturday against Idaho State University. It will be the final home game for the team’s seniors.

Tip-off will be at 2 p.m. at The Nest.
