The women’s golf team finished tied for seventh Tuesday at the WSU Cougar Cup while having to endure a heavy rainfall.

Women’s golf were led by seniors Lisa Persson and Tiffany Nichols, who finished tied for 20th and 26th place respectively.

Persson corrected her sloppy first round mistakes into a solid finish in the last two rounds, improving her score by seven strokes in the second round and eight strokes in the third round. Even with an improved score, Persson finished the Cougar cup 18-over-par, 83-76-75, 234.

Nichols finished two strokes behind Persson with a solid first and third round totals of 76 and 78. Despite the first and third rounds, Nichols still finished 20-over-par 76-82-78, 236.

In her first collegiate tournament experience, freshman Chloe Bartek finished tied for 31st place.

The women play again Monday Sept. 30 – Oct. 1 at the Rose City Collegiate Invitational in Roseville, Ore.
