A student and her boyfriend were robbed at gunpoint in Parking Lot 7 on Saturday evening.

The victims did not sustain any injuries but their wallets, cell phones, and an iPad were taken.

Police Chief Mark Iwasa said armed robbery is almost unheard of at Sacramento State, because students do not carry items of high value.

“It’s a huge risk to take to go to state prison for a long time just to get a phone and a couple of bucks,” Iwasa said. “It just doesn’t really make sense. That’s why you don’t see it here very often.”

The robbery occurred at approximately 8:05 p.m. when two suspects driving a light-colored sedan pulled up and pinned down the victims. One of the suspects pulled out a firearm and demanded the victims’ possessions.

A similar robbery, based on suspect and vehicle description, occurred at 28th Street and 32nd Avenue within the same hour.

Iwasa said Sac State Police is working with conjunction with the Sacramento Police Department to search for potential suspects.

Sac State Police recently received a grant from the Department of Homeland Security to upgrade its perimeter security surveillance system.

Iwasa said it would allow the police to secure more evidence when the campus is empty, and allow for better follow-up.

The first suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing between 160 and 170 pounds and with buzz‐cut black hair. The suspect was wearing a white tee shirt and blue jeans.

The second suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing approximately 180 pounds and with buzz‐cut black hair. The suspect was wearing a grey tee shirt and blue jeans.

The suspects fled the campus in a white Honda Civic four‐door, with an unknown license plate.
