Sacramento State women’s soccer lost its last game of the season on today 2-1 to the San Jose Spartans. Sac State was looking to end the season with a victory, but came up short in the last few minutes of the game.

Sac State started off well scoring the first goal of the game in the first half. The Hornets only goal was scored by freshman forward Josie Jogwe in the 40th minute of the game from 20 yards out.

Freshman forward Maggie Pleis helped the cause for the Hornets assisting Jogwe on the lone goal. Pleis played only 18 minutes, but used it to her advantage to help spark her team heading into half time.

Forward Alyssa Anderson played well in her 50 minutes of allotted time on the field. The freshman shot three times, two going wide and one on goal.

Sophomore Kassi Anast played the full 90 minutes, making it the most minutes of her season played in a single game. The defender is usually used as a utility player off the bench for head coach Randy Dedini.

Senior Shelby Tomasello racked up seven saves out of the Spartans’ nine shots in the game. Tomasello did her job for Sac State for a win, but got unlucky in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Seniors Jordan Carlberg and Elece McBride played the majority of the game. Carlberg played 74 minutes shooting twice, one of those shots on goal. McBride played 61 minutes on and shot once toward the goal, only for it to go wide.

There were two yellow cards pulled in this game – one for each team. Junior Gabriela Trenton picked up her yellow card in the 64th minute of the game and San Jose State’s freshman Rachel Docherty picked up hers in the 86th minute.

San Jose State ended up scoring both its goals in the last 10 minutes, first in the 83rd and the second in 87th minute.

Sac State was outplayed in every category except shots on goal to advantages in corner kicks. Sac State put up only 10 shots to San Jose State’s 16 and had only one corner kick to San Jose State’s five.

This game concluded Sac State women’s soccer 2012 season.
