The Sacramento State rowing team won the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia on Saturday at Schuylkill River behind 40-mph wind gusts.

It was the second time in school history the team has won the Evelyn Bergman Trophy. The last time Sac State won the event was in 2004.

The varsity heavyweight eight crew clocked in with a time of 7:05.52, defeating St. Joseph’s University, Drexel University, Purdue University, Grand Valley University and Buffalo University.

The team also finished in first place in the junior varsity heavyweight eight semifinal two, with a time of 6:49.69 over Delaware University.

The Hornets finished in second place in both of the other events &- the varsity heavyweight semifinal three and junior varsity heavyweight eight.

It was the fifth time in the last eight years Sac State has competed in the regatta.

This weekend’s event concludes the season for the rowing team, as it is coming off its varsity eight grand final victory in last week’s Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships at Lake Natoma.
