The Sacramento State women’s basketball clinched the No. 3 seed in the Big Sky Conference Tournament with a 75-61 win over Weber State University on Saturday.

With the win, the Hornets are now 10-6 in conference play and 15-14 overall. Ashley Garcia led the team with a career-high 21 points against the host Wildcats.

The first half was full of lead changes between the Wildcats and the Hornets. However, Sac State managed to pull ahead behind an 11-3 run with three minutes remaining and a 6-1 run to end the half, giving the Hornets a 44-30 lead.

The Wildcats started breaking down Sac State’s lead to start the second half, cutting the Hornet lead to a slim 53-50 game.

Junior guard Tika Koshiyama-Diaz and junior forward Emily Christensen helped the Hornets to stop the Wildcat comeback, each sinking 3-pointers halfway through the last half.

Christensen got her fifth double-double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Weber State could not find a way to catch up to the Hornets for the remainder of the game as Sac State went on to win with a score of 75-61.

The star of the night was Garcia, as she shot 7-of-11 from the field and made 3-of-5 for 3-pointers.

Having the No. 3 seed locked up in the Big Sky Tournament, the Hornets will face the Montana State Bobcats in the first round on Thursday at Reese Court in Cheney, Wash., on the Eastern Washington University campus. Tip-off is schedule for 3:30 p.m.
