Women’s basketball wins seventh game in a row

Sacramento State women’s basketball team won its seventh game in a row, defeating the University of the Pacific 95-81 on Saturday at the Hornets Nest.

Early on, both squads struggled offensively. In the first half, both teams shot under 36 percent. Sac State went 7-of-8 from the foul line and 8-of-19 from behind the arc.

All of the Hornet starters scored in double-figures.

Sac State opened the second half on a 10-2 run, expanding their lead to 23 points, 55-32.

The Tigers came back with a 23-3 run of their own to close the lead to 63-60 with 12:19 to go.

Sac State made another run, this time 15-2, making the score 80-64. The lead grew again to 19 points with 2:45 left in the game.

Led by Hunt’s 20 points, Sac State scored a season-high 95 points. Senior guard Ashley Garcia ended with 19 points, a career-high. Junior guard Tika Koshiyama-Diaz had 18 points and a career-high nine assists. Junior forward Emily Christensen finished with 13 points and senior forward Erika Edwards concluded the game with a double-double, 12 points and 10 rebounds, her third of the season. Freshman Kylie Kuhns off the bench to scored nine points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

With the win, the Hornets move to 11-12 overall on the season. The Tigers fall to 4-19.

Sac State will try and make it eight straight against Montana State University on Thursday at the Hornets Nest. The game begins at 7:05 p.m.
