Football falls to Montana State at away game

Sacramento State’s football team succumbed to Montana State’s defense in the second half as the Hornets fell to the Bobcats 27-17 Saturday at Bobcat Stadium. The Hornets kept the game close during the first half with the score being 14-14 at the half. During the second half, the Hornets could not keep up with the Bobcats’ offense and the only time the Hornets scored was off a 52-yard career-long field goal by junior kicker Chris Diniz. Junior quarterback McLeod Bethal-Thompson completed 24 of 41 passes for 269 yards and one touchdown; however, he also threw three interceptions. Several players performed well on the defensive end for the Hornets despite the loss. Junior linebacker Geoff Warner had career-high 11 tackles for the game and junior defensive lineman Christian Clark raised his season sack total to 10. After the loss Sac State’s overall record fell to 4-6 and finished 4-4 in the Big Sky Conference. The Hornets sit alone in sixth place in the Big Sky while Montana State kept its playoff hopes alive by maintaining its fourth-place spot ending with a 5-2 conference record, 7-3 overall.
