Local artist Taylor Gutermute will have her work displayed from Feb. 23 to March 19 at the University Union Gallery.

Gutermute’s exhibit,”Implied Motion”, will feature sheet metal sculptures and three-dimensional pieces.

“I have more three-dimensional pieces on pedestals than I’ve ever done in a show before,” Gutermute said.

Tiffany Dreyer, design manager and coordinator of the gallery, said she was excited that Gutermute was able to have a show in the Union Gallery.

“From the sound of it, she made a lot of those pieces just for this show becauseshe knew it was going to be student-driven,” Dreyer said. “She wanted something that was going to be kind of funky and different that would draw the student’s attention.”

The gallery host a variety of artists who display their work. There are pieces from faculty, alumni, working artists in the community, and traveling artists.

Bill Olmsted, gallery director, said that since many students and faculty cannot go to other art exhibits because they are busy either at school or work, the gallery tries to bring things from the art world for them to see.

“We try to bring a diverse calendar of shows together. Diverse in subject matter and mediums; and we try to present stuff to the campus community that they’re otherwise not going to be out there seeing,” Olmsted said.

Dreyer said she found Gutermute on Google. She saw Gutermute’s website and contacted her to have a show at the Union Gallery.

“I just opened my e-mail one day and there was an invitation from Dreyer to show here,” Gutermute said. “I was just absolutely thrilled.”

The University Union Gallery is open 10:30-3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The show will have its reception from 6-8 p.m. on March 5.For more information, visit: http://www.csus.edu/union/gallery. Christina Li can be reached at [email protected]
