Fisher shines in “Shopaholic”

Everybody loves a good romantic comedy, and you might say that you would hate to be suckered into one of those “chick flicks,” but “Confessions of a Shopaholic” was definitely a movie that pulled me in.

It was a quaint movie with, of course, the cliches that you see in every romantic comedy, such as the damsel in distress that is saved by the man in all his glory. However, I was shocked to see in this movie that the damsel in distress was able to play a big part in fixing her own dilemma and fixing her poor credit.

Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers) does an amazing job playing the credit card addict through her character Rebecca Bloomwood and is very relatable to anybody who has ever been a victim of evil credit cards.

Bloomwood confesses in the movie that a cute shirt would never leave you like a boyfriend would, and although this is a rather abstract comparison of the two, it is very true. I think that is why the movie was so enjoyable to watch; it was very easy to identify with the shopaholic character, especially if you are a girl.

The way Fisher lights up when she is talking about a cute pair of new shoes or a new purse in the movie could be seen on any girl who has ever gotten anything that they truly love or “needed so badly.”

The comedy in the movie brought out bouts of laughter and the touching parts of the movie brought a tear to my eye. Yes, it is true that they might have been a little cheesy, but hey, we all need a little mushy warm stuff now and then.

What is a romantic comedy without the drop-dead gorgeous man? This is where Luke Brandon (Hugh Dancy) comes in. The chemistry between Fisher and Brandon is undeniable and he is not too bad to look at either.

Dancy plays a promising editor of a finance magazine and is drawn to Bloomwood’s vivacity in the movie.

He comes off as the classic Mr. Darcy of “Pride and Prejudice,” and his disposition is just what the movie needed to pull it along.

I think that any girl who has ever been a sucker to the so-called “chick flick” will definitely love this movie. It is warm hearted and humorous. Who knows, you shopaholics out there may gain a little insight from this adorable film.
