Melinda Seid, a professor in the health science program, passed away Jan. 12 from cancer.

Seid, 56, started teaching at Sacramento State in 1990. She taught healthcare administration courses along with her favorite class, human ecology and health.

Fred Baldini, chair of the department of kinesiology and health science said Seid was professional in every way. She was an outstanding teacher, scholar and a servant to the campus and the greater community.

“She leaves a great legacy through the hundreds of students she guided into the Health Science profession. She also will have a lasting impact on the Health Science program at CSUS; during her tenure here, the program flourished. As a person, she was a caring, honest, open person who meant a lot to those knew her. She will be missed,” Baldini said.

Seid was diagnosed with cancer in September and had to leave teaching in the fall. She is survived by her husband, Richard Harris.

Kinesiology and health science professor Patty Woodward said that Seid was loved by everyone and dedicated herself to her job, the university, students and community.

“She was one of the hardest working people you would ever know. And she was passionate, generous and considerate,” Woodward said.

A memorial will be held for Seid to celebrate her life this Saturday, Jan. 17, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Campus Commons Club House located at 650 Commons Dr. in Sacramento.
