Sacramento State’s Student Health Center offers plenty of resources and services that can help students stay healthy and stress free.
Laboratory, Pharmacy, X Ray
Janet Dumonchelle, pharmacy manager for the Student Health Center, said most of the drugs offered through the center are much more affordable than other pharmacies and medical facilities.
“For the most part, a lot of what we offer is cheaper,” Dumonchelle said. “Most X-rays are free and the lab prices vary according to what is getting looked at,” she said.
Optometry
Ever needed an eye examination and/or purchase contact lenses or glasses? The optometry office can assist students with these services.
Students can choose from a wide selection of eyeglass frames in its “EYE WEAR CENTER,” located within the center.
Physical Examinations
Physical examinations are required for those students who did not already have one prior to the beginning of the school year. Student athletes, in particular, are required to have an examination before the sports season begins.
Freshman undeclared major Duncan White said he sees the health center as a great asset to the campus.
“Being a football player, it is easy to get injured. The health center is really good at helping athletes get looked at quickly, so that we can get back into training faster,” White said.
Psychological Services
Students who have a lot to handle academically, as well as socially, can look to the center to speak to somebody when they feel they need to.
Services are only offered to those who are registered students.
The psychological services are provided by two psychiatrists and 20 counselors who assist students.
Kristine Angeles, administrative support for the Student Health Center, said students should always seek help when they need it.
“Everything is very confidential, unless you sign a release from, and it is all free,” Angeles said.
