Sac State hosts golf championships

Although the women’s golf team will not be competing at the NCAA West Regional Championship, Sacramento State’s athletic staff has been working hard to finalize preparations for the event. The three-day competition will be held on the Orchard Course at the Lincoln Hills Golf Club.

“This has consumed my life, day and night, for the past month,” Marketing Director Adam Primas said.

Primas is the center of all logistical operations for the event, interfacing with every team and organization involved with the tournament. From setting up hotel rooms and transportation in conjunction with Placer Valley Tourism for the 21 teams of five players each, to coordinating the 60-man volunteer group needed to run the event, Primas is in the center of organizing everyone’s efforts to provide the best hospitality Sac State can provide.

He is also in charge of communicating with the NCAA and the Northern California Golf Association’s Assistant Director of Rules and Competitions Ryan Gregg to set up the rules and parameters of the tournament. All the rules officials for the event will come from the Northern California Golf Association.

If the competitors at the NCAA West Regional Preview in March thought the Orchard Course was tough, then they should be prepared to expect a few new surprises in the course layout. Primas said that the pin placements on a couple holes will be different than what was seen in the Preview, to make the holes more difficult. Media Relations Director Brian Berger said that the course is being changed somewhat by growing out a thicker rough and promised that the “greens will be faster,” although the fairways will stay the same.

Competitors will have a chance to practice on the course Wednesday before the tournament begins on Thursday at 8 a.m.
