The UC Davis Aggies snapped the Sacramento State baseball team’s five-game winning streak Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference meeting at Hornet Field. The Aggies beat the Hornets by a score of 10-5, scoring a combined six runs in the eight and ninth innings. The win improved the Aggies’ record to 18-8 while the loss dropped the Hornets’ record to 10-15.

“We really don’t see this as too much of a rivalry,” Hornet senior designated hitter Jeff Hannah said. “We just look at it as another game. It’s just another team we’re playing.”

Hornet senior third baseman David Flores broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning when he blasted a two-run home run that hit the fourth floor of Parking Structure I that overlooks left field.

The Aggies answered right back, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth inning to even the score at 4-4. They scored four runs in the top of the eighth and two runs in the top of the ninth to pull away from the Hornets.

Hornet pitcher Ryan Magee received the loss as he allowed the four runs to the Aggies in the eighth, dropping his record to 0-1. He did not record an out while giving up three hits and walking one.

“UC Davis did a good job today and they capitalized on some of our mistakes,” Hannah said. “They put the ball in play in the right times and did the right things at the right times ? hats off to them.”

The Hornets committed four errors against the Aggies Tuesday after only committing 23 errors in their first 24 games of the season.

“We just have to look ahead and put this one behind us, really,” Hannah said. “Every game matters but we’ve just got to look ahead to the WAC series coming up because that’s the most important thing ? we’re trying to look past this and get over it quick and then be ready to play this weekend.”

Sac State will start a WAC conference series this weekend when they travel to Cajun country to play the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. The series starts at 6 p.m. Friday at J.C. Love Field.
