A total of 21 teams nationwide participated in a two-day construction task in Las Vegas, where Sacramento State students won first place.

The 2008 Associated General Contractors of America and the Associated Schools of Construction 89th National Student Competition was judged by the planning, scheduling and the grasping of construction skills. The teams included 126 prospective individuals looking to get into the building world.

Judges observed the final products and were able to hear an oral explanation for the projects and a written clarification to better understand each of the projects.

There were divisions of Commercial Building, Design Build and Heavy-Civil. First through third place were given for each.

Sac State won first place in the Commercial Building and Design Build divisions, taking the majority of the wins in the whole competition.

The participants received their awards at a dinner at the Flamingo and a breakfast at The Bellagio.

Granite Construction Inc., Hensel Phelps Construction Co. and Turner Construction were some of the sponsors for a division of the competition.
