The Sacramento State baseball team suffered defeat at the hands of the Loyola-Marymount Lions Saturday by a score of 7-3. The loss dropped the Hornets’ record to 1-1 while the Lions improved to 1-1 after the second game of the scheduled four game series.

The Hornets scored a run in the first inning for the second straight game when senior right fielder Ryan Blair scored on a sacrifice fly by junior shortstop Blake Crosby. Blair hit a lead-off triple to start the bottom of the first inning.

The Lions scored in the top of the third inning when freshman second baseman Jonathan Johnson scored on junior center fielder Ollie Enos’s single up the middle. Loyola-Marymount scored three more runs in the top of the fourth inning with the help of four doubles. The Lions added a run in the fifth, eight and ninth innings.

The Hornets managed to score two more runs but did not manage to get the same offensive production they had the day earlier when they scored 12 runs on 14 hits.

The remaining two games were canceled due to rain and have not been rescheduled.

The Hornets will take on the San Francisco State Gators at 2 p.m. on Feb. 26 at Hornet Field
